At Audenshaw School French is taught by four full-time experienced specialist teachers. We also have a native French Language Assistant each year who assists teachers across all three Key Stages and helps prepare GCSE and A Level students for their coursework and exams.
We aim to develop the ability to use and understand French both for examination purposes and as a means of communication in the wider world. Lessons are stimulating and enjoyable and relevant to the pupils’ individual needs and abilities. The courses we follow are fully up-to-date to prepare pupils for life in the 21st century. In Key Stage 3 we use Avance!, at GCSE Métro and at A Level Élan. Pupils also follow the Entry Level French course in Year 9. All classrooms are well-resourced and ICT is used regularly to enhance teaching and learning. The Department also has its own website with materials to help each year group. Pupils develop their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills as well as an understanding of grammar. There are also regular trips to France for pupils in the main school and at A Level and French pupils visit Audenshaw School each year.
The French Department achieves exceptionally good examination results each year. In 2010, for example, 72% of GCSE pupils achieved A*-C with 18% of them reaching A*/A grades. At A Level the French Department has a 100% pass rate with some pupils then choosing to study French at University level, including Oxford and Cambridge. All members of the French Department are enthusiastic, innovative and fully committed to helping all pupils to achieve their very best.
