The aim of this was to develop our business skills and improve on our confidence and team work. What did we have to do? Well, the year was split into 2 groups. On the first day my half of the year had the task of building a civilization on an island. We were told that the earth was changing due to global warming and that the polar ice caps had melted, all of the countries had been flooded and that there were 4 islands left on earth and it was our job to inhabit one of these islands. We had to think of ways to provide food, shelter, entertainment and much more. All the groups pitched their islands to the other groups. We decided which groups had the best ideas and best designs and these groups were entered into a final in which they competed for the grand prize. On the second day, we had to think of a brand new product that wasn’t on the market; we had to present our ideas to 3 dragons (Mr. Shanker, Mr. Mckee and Mrs. Bradbury) we had to think about how we would make it, the income and outcome and how much profit we would gain. We also had to include a TV or radio advert advertising our product. We made logos, posters and even a jingle (song). We pitched our products to the year and the 3 dragons. As we had done the day before, we decided which groups had the best and most realistic product; these groups were entered into a final. They battled for the grand prize. Overall, I personally think it was a great 2 days. I would definitely recommend it to other schools and I would happily do it again.

(World Book Day)
Teachers from our school boxed up various books that were declared 'wasted' due to various syllabus changes over time.
The amount was vast and it took two cars (namely Mr Davies' and Mrs Sandler's) to transport it all to the READ international depot in town.
We are sure that pupils in our partner schools will benefit form these books enormously.

1st March 2012.
World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of authors, illustrators, books and of reading in over 100 countries.
To mark the 15th year anniversary of the event, all of Audenshaw’s pupils and members of staff came together to celebrate the pleasure of books and the hobby of reading. At exactly 2.00pm last Thursday, the school bell rang and lessons were suspended for the day. Pupils and staff embraced the opportunity to spend half an hour simply enjoying reading for pleasure the books, magazines or newspapers that they were encouraged to bring in. The overwhelming support from us all ensured that the end of the day was a relaxing and pleasurable one.
Pupils also received a book voucher on Thursday: hopefully, hundreds of pupils will take their voucher to any local bookshop and use it to pick one of eight new and completely free books. Or, if they’d prefer, they can use it to get £1 off any book or audio book costing over £2.99 at a participating bookshop.
Our first whole-school celebration of the event now marks the beginning of a yearly celebration of World Book Day at Audenshaw School. As Head of the English Department, it was exciting to hear both staff and pupils discussing reading together in such an enthusiastic and excitable way. On the website are a series of pictures taken on the day which clearly show how successful the event was.
We are 100% committed to helping children explore the pleasure of books.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, year 7 were challenged to a 'dragon sketching' competition. By far, 7W provided the most entrants and the top three positions came from this form.

First place went to Dylan Mistry, second to Luke Nero and third to Adam Turner. Well done to these boys!

During their French lesson, Y10 pupils braved the cold to work collaboratively with their French correspondents in the quad. Having only ever written to one another, the students enjoyed finally meeting up and having the opportunity to chat to one another and to compare their schools, tastes and hobbies.

Activities involving the use or sale of Fairtrade products throughout school have taken place throughout the academic year including a Fairtrade cooking competition with year 8. The involved preparing a dessert entirely from fairtrade produce. Special recognition must go to Lewis Appleton - Jones, Connor Miles, George Holtom, Harry Hinds, Toby Thorpe, Kia Condor and Nathan Hall.....all from 8W. Well done!

The report from the fairtrade Foundation states;

'Please continue the good work. It is encouraging to see sustained discussion and successful outcomes from your young men. Congratulations - it is a pleasure to confirm the approval of Audenshaw as a Fairtrade School.

Audenshaw School witnessed a truly international experience recently with a visit from the Kampala Children's Choir, Uganda.

Their performance infront of the year 9 pupils was simply phenomenal. Full of life, rhythm and vibrancy.

This is in stark contrast to their lives before being rescued by the Kampala Childrens Centre and, it was clear to us all, how important this organisation is to those children who benefit from its help in Uganda.

If there are individuals reading this who would like to donate to this very worthy cause, it would be very much appreciated. Please contact Mr Shanker at Audenshaw School if you can help.'
