A collection of Audenshaw students and staff were involved in a world record breaking Rugby "Touchathon" yesterday evening to raise money for The Christie Hospital in Manchester and the Steve Prescott Foundation. The event, organised by The Rugby Football League in conjunction with Salford City Council and sponsored by "SUBWAY," involved rugby players from across the country collectively taking part in 24 hours of touch rugby in order to break the existing world record. The competition included teams representing Wigan College, St Edmund Arrowsmith School Staff and Students and the "Rugby League All Stars," a team comprised of legends of the game including Alan Hunte, Paul Atcheson, Anthony Sulllivan and ex St Helens and Great Britain ace, Paul Sculthorpe. The highlight of the evening was the 3 tries to 1 victory by "Team Audenshaw," a team made up of staff and students of the school, over the All Stars outfit with Miss Crowley proving to be the star of the show! The red and whites were eventually defeated by the New Zealand Kiwis but a great time was had by all in the name of an extremely worthwhile cause. I would like to thank all of the lads for their outstanding efforts and for taking part in a what was a memorable event for them to be involved in. Well Done All.

Team: Miss Crowley, Mr Ward, Mr Rose, Jack Spensley, Danny Openshaw, Adam Mallinson, Haydn Williams, Sam Slater, Sam Latham, Ryan Harding.

She lives and works in Honolulu, Hawaii, owning her own school which specialises in the delivery of the Chinese Mandarin language.

Due to her busy schedule, Lily could only spend 3 hours at the school but made a significant impact, contributing to Geography and American history classes. Many pupils were given an exciting introduction to the Mandarin language and were left wanting more.

The photograph shows Sam Nero, a year 9 prefect, presenting Lily with a signed school rugby shirt during her visit.

Film Club Premiere

On 16th June 2011 a number of students were chosen to visit the Lowry Cinema ‘Vue’ to see the first showing in the North-West of ‘Life In A Day’, a new film directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King Of Scotland) and Ridley Scott (Gladiator).

Mrs Carter, Mrs Downing, Mrs Lomas and Mrs Warren took 26 Year 7, 8 and 9 students to the Lowry Cinema to view this new film. After a coach drive to the cinema we took our seats and waited for the film to begin. The film was very interesting and we all learnt a lot about how other people all over the world live their daily lives.

After the film the pupils took part in a question and answer session with the director himself. Just after this we received some very good news. Our school had been selected to nominate one pupil to appear on Newsround (CBBC) and be interviewed by one of the presenters-Hayley Cutts. Aidan Balfe (9A) was the lucky pupil to be interviewed. How scary for Aiden, he had to be interviewed with the rest of us watching him, but he looked like a pro!!

Overall, it was a great experience and we all learnt a lot from it.
