A few changes were made to allow a few fringe players to play the full 90 and some of the usual 11 a rest for the eagerly anticipated cup tie that is approaching.

Despite how convincing the score line looks, All Saints took the lead when a long through ball evaded the whole of the back 4 and the pacey striker calmly slotted it under the oncoming keeper’. However, this was to have no bearing on the game as there was an immediate reply as the ever impressive Nathan Selby avoided the whole of the backline and then placed the ball into the top corner of the net. This was to be the start of a rampage from Audenshaw as they looked to secure the league title. After great work on the left from Gulla and Carabine the latter slotted the ball home. Jack McCormack grabbed his first of the match after Ben Pollit put in another great ball and there he was to smash home on the volley into the roof of the net. This was quickly followed by the fourth when Reece Frost played an excellent through ball to Nathan Selby who left the defence for dead as he rounded the keeper to secure a 4-1 lead at half time.

HT Audenshaw 4 – 1 All Saints

It took 40 seconds after the restart for the team to extend their lead when Dan Carabine slipped the ball under the keeper. Jack got his 2nd and 3rd of the match to seal his hat trick with a composed finish into the far corner and his 3rd after a cross from the ever dependable Alex Brodie was flicked on by Carabine and there Jack was with the emphatic finish. All Saints grabbed 2 goals back in quick succession but never really posed a serious threat at 7-3. Additional goals from, James Barnes, Karl Higham and another goal from top scorer Carabine sealed his own hat trick. Joe Leggat completed the scoring with an emphatic finish with his first goal of his senior career.

The team was shuffled around with defenders playing at front and the strikers playing at the back as the team had already sealed the league title.

After a scrappy start to the game with both sides evenly matched, Audenshaw broke the deadlock after an undefendable corner from Alex Brodie was emphatically converted by Kyle Clayton after being left unmarked on the edge of the six-yard box. This was to be the start of a comfortable victory as the team soon made it 2 after some great build up play, Slinger played a through ball to Allwood who squared the ball to the unmarked Carabine who’s shot was blocked only to be slid home from Cameron McColl with the help of a few deflections. Both teams played the half out with few chances few and far between.

HT Audenshaw 2 - 0 Ashton

The lack of structure to the team after all players playing in the wrong position began to show at the start of the first half as both teams never began to get a hold of the game. Another free flowing move between Danny Gulla and Cameron McColl led to the latter putting a cross in that was not dealt with by the Ashton defender or the goalkeeper which left Dan Carabine with the easiest of finishes into an empty net. Lack of fitness began to show as no fewer than 5 players got cramp. As the team began to go all out attack, Ashton caught them on the counter attack which ended up with the striker being put through on goal who carefully placed the ball under the oncoming keeper’ Josh Quinn. This was not to be the end of the scoring after a foul on the unfit Jake Slinger, Clayton stepped up with a 35 yard free kick which nestled into the roof of the net when the Ashton keeper ought to have saved it.

With the league campaign coming to an end, Audenshaw now face Glossopdale this coming Wednesday in the quarter finals of the Manchester Cup which promises to be a tough encounter.

It proved to be the feisty encounter that was anticipated before a ball was kicked. Before the game manager Coombs was presented with his manager of the month award.

After an uneventful opening to the game, Curzon created the first chance of the match when their striker was put through on goal; only to be denied by a superb last ditch challenge from Man of the Match Alex Allwood. However, Audenshaw upped their game and took the lead with a fantastic team goal. James Barnes broke from midfield and supplied Jake Slinger with an excellent cross which he converted in some style, a magnificent first touch was matched by the finish, at the keepers’ front post. Slinger then gave way through his lack of fitness, which led to a managerial change with Jake Coombs opting for a 4-5-1 formation.

HT Audenshaw 1 – 0 Curzon

A number of changes at half time didn’t seem to affect the teams’ performance as they carried on to dominate the game. After a number of half chances Audenshaw stretched their lead with a fine solo effort from the impressive Nathan Selby, a half time substitute. After beating the Curzon full back twice he weaved in and out before finding the net from what seemed an impossible angle. Curzon’s frustration showed as Jack McCormack was stamped on, with the referee only seeing it as a bookable offense. However, Jack retaliated needlessly by kicking out which meant he too was booked. After a number of bad challenges Curzon had 3 players in the book who were joined by the cynical Karl Higham who only seemed to make matters worse. The game was sealed with a 20 yard strike which somehow crept into the bottom corner.

The ever reliable defence of Gulla, Clayton, Allwood and McColl never looked threatened apart from at the start of the game. Joe Leggat showed his talent when brought on and impressing the Manchester City scout who was on the sidelines which can only compared with the likes of Messi. This all but sealed the league title with 5 wins out of 5 and sitting nicely in the quarter final of the Manchester cup. This extended the team’s unbeaten start to the season.

The Sixth Form football team reached the quarter finals of the Manchester Cup with a convincing 4-1 victory over Bolton Academy on Wednesday 23rd November. Following on from their unbeaten start, Audenshaw continued their fantastic form crushing an experienced and talented side, making them look more like complete amateurs. Their performance earned them a glamorous tie at home to St Ambrose College from Altrincham.

The game started at a frantic pace with Audenshaw on the attack; a managerial decision from Jake Coombs to put Bolton under pressure, and the deadlock was finally broken with an excellent strike from Nathan Selby. After making the defence look ragged, he weaved in and out and casually slotted the ball home from just inside the area. This set the stall for the rest of the match which would end up being a professional performance. The lads went 2-0 up after a cynical foul on the impressive Jake Slinger led to a free kick just outside the penalty area. Kyle Clayton, leading by example, stepped up and coolly converted into the bottom corner when the keeper should really have done better. The team should have extended their lead as half time approached but close misses from Joe Leggat and Ben Pollit could really have cost the team on another day. The game inevitably fizzled out towards the end of the first half to leave the score at 2-0 to Audenshaw.

After a number of changes from the unbeaten start to the campaign from first team coach Jake Coombs, the players emerged for the second half with the intention of extending their lead. After yet another cynical foul, Daniel Carabine ceased the opportunity with a sensational strike from 30 yards, finding the top right corner leaving the keeper rooted to the spot. Yet again, they seized the initiative and extended their lead further with a somewhat lucky goal from the disappointing Karl Higham which went through the replacement keepers’ hands. However, a lapse in concentration led to a glimmer of hope for the opposition after a mix up in the back line led to a mistake from the usually inform Max Charlottes. The final whistle went and into the next round the team goes with the hope of going all the way for the first time in several years; whilst also sitting 2nd in the league behind Curzon Ashton who they play last game of the season in a mouth watering clash. After much deliberation the man of the match was awarded to the ever reliable Daniel Gulla.
