By Cyrus Nayeri.
Over the summer holidays, Cyrus Nayeri will be spending six weeks in Brazil with the Prime Minister’s Global Fellowship. The initiative was taken by Gordon Brown in 2007 to provide 100 eighteen and nineteen year olds the opportunity to experience rapidly industrialising counties in order to appreciate our increasingly interconnected and globalised planet in India, China and Brazil.
In Brazil, Cyrus will be the guest of global publishing company Cambridge University Press as well as teaching English, learning Portuguese and experiencing the rich culture of the nation. The aim is to arrive back in the UK with a mature appreciation of the true scale of globalisation, Brazilian culture as well as the understanding of what the UK must do in order to ensure its global competitiveness. The programme aims to illustrate that the opportunity to learn from other nations is not one we take begrudgingly, but seize gladly and on return Cyrus will be sharing his experience with the school, community and the country.
