This year Sports Day was memorable for many things, not leastthe weather. Conditions were not ideal for competitors and spectators alike but it did not seem to dampen spirits or detractfrom some impressive performances.
Year 7
A very close competition with 6 points separating the top 4 teams. The lead changed many times during the competition and the eventual winners 7L only took the lead during the final event.
The most notable performances were: Layton Norgan’s impressive win in a competitive 1500m. Noah Tetlow’s start to finish lead in the 800m and the outstanding Josh Askew who powered to victory in the 100m by more than 1 second.
Year 8
Forms L, A and W built a convincing gap from the other forms from the start of competition. 8L eventually ran out winners by 8points.
The outstanding performance of the whole day came from yr 8 with Denver Massey blasting the 400m to win by 10 seconds. Impressive wins also came from Jonathan Wilbraham in the 800m, Lewis Quinton James in the 1500m and ________ Hallas’ 1.40m in the High Jump.
Year 9
The year 9 competition saw the 3rd consecutive “run away” win in a row by 9W, winning every track event as well as the discus and long jump.
The Winners from 9W where: Jack Johnson (11.9 -100m), Lewis Christian (25.7 – 200m), Daniel Potts (58.9 – 400m), Max Cole (2.24 – 800m & 26.52 – Discus), Jimmy Castle (4.49 – 1500m & 4.05 – Long Jump) and the relay (50.8 - Cole, Christian, Potts Johnson).
The most notable “non 9W” performer was Eliott Stocks’ 30.90 in the javelin.
Year 10
10N won the title this year by a convincing 10 points despite their disqualification in the “double points” relay.
Standout performances came thick and fast in the year 10 competition from the “usual suspects” in a very talented year group. Oliver McDonald recorded an impressive 24.2 in the rain over 200m. Kane Tonge held off Ryan Harding in a close 100m finish. Connor White, best known for his hurdles recorded a Long jump, Triple jump double and Kade Campbell won the 400m in an excellent 57.1.
Well done to all the competitors in difficult conditions. A big thank you to all the staff and 6th form PE students who helped, your help is always so vital. The spectators conducted themselves very well and encouraged all the competitors despite the rain.
P.S. Full results can be seen in the PE Dept.
