The Spanish department at Audenshaw was initiated 3 years ago. There are currently 2 classes; 1 in year 10 and another in year 11. It is available as a GCSE option to Year 10 pupils who have already proven themselves to be good linguists in years 7, 8 and 9 and would therefore be in set 1 in their French and / or German lessons. However pupils with previous experience of learning Spanish would also be considered.
As the students start Spanish at beginner’s level in Year 10, it is an extremely fast-paced course so they can achieve GCSE level in 2 years. So far the department has been very successful and the first 2 years of GCSE results in the subject have been excellent, with a high percentage of pupils achieving A grades.
